A murder investigation has been launched after a man’s body was found in a Warwickshire river. The man, who has not been identified but is aged in his 50s, was spotted by a passer-by in the water at Victoria Park in Leamington yesterday morning (April 15).
At the time police said that they were treating the man's death as 'unexplained' but now detectives have confirmed they are investigating murder.
It comes after a post mortem examination carried out earlier today (April 18) revealed that the man died as a 'result of injuries consistent with an assault'.

In a statement, Detective Inspector Gareth Unett said: “I understand this will be concerning for the local community, but I’d like to reassure them we have a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances that led to the man’s death.
“We’re carrying out a number of enquiries including checking CCTV and will have officers in and around the park providing reassurance. If you have questions, please speak to them.
“We’d ask anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area from late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning to come forward and share what they know.
“Finally, I’d ask people not to speculate online as this can cause unnecessary distress to the family and may impact our investigation.”
Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
